The Recession strikes Again: Vibe Mag goes under

Vibe magazine is no more. According to several online sources, the urban music/hip-hop magazine founded by Quincy Jones in 1993 is shutting it's doors. This saddens me. It hurts to see another one of my beloved addictions go away. I can remember hiding my Vibe from my mom, when I was 16. I remember the infamous Lil' Kim cover. Vibe was once a great source of Urban insight. Sadly, another outlet for urban youth has passed on. A few of my favorite Vibe covers from the past are below. Enjoy.

Giving Back: Gary Brackett Football Challenge

This past Saturday Eric and I had the pleasure of attending the Gary Brackett Impact Foundation Football Challenge. Kroger (my employer) is the headlining sponsor for the event, and my department (Advertising & Marketing) was over the event this year.
Eric played flag football with Gary and several Indianapolis Colts players, and I worked the booths. Great times!
Pics below. Enjoy.

Fathers Day:What to give my mom

Father's day is fastly approaching, and I have no idea what to get my mom this year.
For the past 5 years or so, my sister and I have gotten her a gift. We give her a gift each year because she has dual duty-She is mom and dad, and has been since our parents divorced.
But this year, we (my sister & I) are having issues.
What do you give the mom that has everything.? She isn't hard to buy for, but I think we have been giving her same thing on Father's Day for a few years now. We need to switch it up!
5 Gift Ideas this year:
1. Gas Grill
2. Lowes gift card (she lives there)
3. Manicure & Pedicure gift cert
4. A new purse
5. A dinner cert

What are you getting your dad or mom for Father's Day? Send me a suggestion!

5 things I love about my husband

TGIF! As I type this, I am enjoying a glass of ice water and a bowl of grapes.. That has nothing to do with this post, I just wanted to share.

Anywhoo.. 5 things I love about my husband:

1. His ability to ALWAYS make me laugh. I don't know where he gets it.. but man. Some of things he says/does.. HILARIOUS!
2. His hardworking nature. He goes hard 100% of the time. If he says he is going to do something-he will, and he will give his ALL.
3. His Swag- So laid back, and just cool.
4. His devotion to all things bacon-Seriously, he should write a book. The man LOVES bacon.
5. Lastly, His patience with me. I know I can be crazy sometimes, and he handles it and me very well.

Public Service Annoucement: Diabetes and you

All About Diabetes
Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play roles.

Major Types of Diabetes
Type 1 diabetesResults from the body's failure to produce insulin, the hormone that "unlocks" the cells of the body, allowing glucose to enter and fuel them. It is estimated that 5-10% of Americans who are diagnosed with diabetes have type 1 diabetes.
Type 2 diabetes Results from insulin resistance (a condition in which the body fails to properly use insulin), combined with relative insulin deficiency. Most Americans who are diagnosed with diabetes have type 2 diabetes.
Gestational diabetes Immediately after pregnancy, 5% to 10% of women with gestational diabetes are found to have diabetes, usually, type 2.
Pre-diabetes Pre-diabetes is a condition that occurs when a person's blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. There are 57 million Americans who have pre-diabetes, in addition to the 23.6 million with diabetes.

Wednesday Wisdom

Good Day. My mom sent this to me for encouragement, I want to share it with you.

Be Larger
In this dark hour, golden forces musterto greet all semblance of fear,
to cast spiritual light upon the darknessand make discord disappear,
sweet dear, such is the mighty powerwithin your heart-felt prayer,
as we become comradesin the common endeavorof allegiance to life,
through whatever strifethe world may deliver,
we are larger, we are larger,
than any illusionof time-bound terror.
