Thursday Thoughts: Co-workers

The Co-Worker.

Co-workers that we like? How many of us have them? I work in a fairly large office over 200 people can be actively working on any given day in my office-That means a ton of different attitudes. All of these different attitudes can sometimes cause friction between co-workers. Question of the day: How many of us actually have co-workers that we genuinely like?

Think on it.

Music Wednesday: Hot Band in Indy

This past Friday, I had the pleasure to hang out with my favorite cousin over awesome sushi, great wine and a jamming band. The music was awesome, so much so that I had to ride home without the radio, just to come down off my musical high. Check them out -Xenobia Green.

One more thing, the Bass player is SICK.. I felt like my head was going to explode listening to his riffs.

Movie Review: The Soloist

Over my busy weekend, I had the pleasure of going to the movies. Oh I love the movies- I love everything about it, the overpriced popcorn, the seats, the evil concession stand workers. I just simply enjoy going to see a movie.

This weekend several movies debuted at my local theater. One being, The Soloist, starring Robert Downey Jr, and Jamie Foxx. I had been waiting for this movie for what seems like forever. I started following the story of characters in the film, when I saw the trailer in movie last year. I was so excited to finally see this movie.

The film is based on a true story about Nathaniel Ayres, a gifted musician who studies at Jilliard, becomes schizophrenic and homeless. The movie also details an intriguing relationship that develops between Nathaniel, and a reporter for the Los Angeles Times. The film was wonderfully written, and very well acted. At one point while watching the movie, I actually forgot that Jamie Foxx was playing this character. Jamie did a wonderful job of adding depth to his craft. I love him a musician, but I am truly in love with him as an actor. (sorry babe)
Robert Downey Jr. did a great job as well, showing us that he is still in the game as one of Hollywoods premier actors.

Lastly, I was very glad the film touched on a subject that is near to my heart, and my family. Mental Health. I was so over-joyed that main character in the film dealing with mental issues was African-American- and that saddens me at the same time. The state of the mental health in the African-American community is another one of our big elephants in the room that no-one wants to talk about.

Overall, I think the Soloist is a must see for 2009.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

I love pork!! Good old pork! Well I have an easy recipe for anyone that wants to make a good go-to dish a home. The picture above is not my pork, I forgot to take a pic.
Stuff ya need:
6-8 hours of time let the pork get good and tender
A medium to large slow cooker
1 1lb-2lb pork loin
Barbecue Sauce(can be homemade)
Salt (kosher salt is what I used), Pepper (coarse ground) & onion powder.
1 Tablespoon of oil (I used Canola)
1 Medium skillet
How I made it:
Pre Heat the slow cooker to high.
Put a tablespoon of water in the slow-cooker
I rinsed the pork loin and patted it dry.
I seasoned the pork loin on all sides with each spice.
After heating the oil in the skillet, I browned the pork loin on each side.
After browning the pork loin, I paced it in the slow cooker, and left it alone.
I checked on the pork loin every few hours. The longer it cooked, the more tender it got.
After 7 hours, using tongs, I pulled the pork apart into small pieces. It literally fell apart!
I added the barbecue sauce and let the pork for another hour.
It was great! I served it with toasted buns, pickles, and steak fries.
Enjoy!

When over is really over: The Break-Up, Part 1

I hate breakups.
I have a friend is going through a rough patch with a her guy. Well, I guess its no longer a rough patch, as of this weekend, they are officially over. This has been the worst break-up I have ever witnessed.
Sad to say, I am relieved. I hurt for my friend, but I KNOW there is someone much better out there for her. She is beautiful, talented and a wonderful person all around. I hope that in all of this craziness, she knows that she is much better without him.
They had been together for years, (more than 5) and there was no indication of a marriage proposal. Over the last few years, I have witnessed this relationship go from bad to worse. On a side note, I grown to know her mate and we have become associates, somewhat friends. Now, I can't even look him in the eye. If I see him on the street..Well.. let's not go there.
I only hope things will get better for me friend. I know they will. I've got faith in her.

6 months in and a lifetime to go

This weekend I celebrated 6 months of marriage. It seems as if the time as flown by. I feel as if it was just yesterday that Eric and I met in high school and became best friends. It seems as if it was just yesterday that Eric and I began dating. And I know that it was yesterday that I walked down the aisle and became his wife. These past 6 months have been fun, challenging, and full of laughter. They say the first year is the hardest, and I can agree. But I love the craziness of it all. I love being Eric's wife, and I can only imagine where life is going to take us next.
Happy 6 Month's Mr. Eric. It's been a great ride, and I can't wait for the next turn.

Music Review-Smokie Norful Live

Music Review- Smokie Norful-“Live”
This cd is a must have for any music lover, even if you are not a fan of the gospel music, the band on the album was more than enough for me to make this purchase.
I have been a fan of Smokie since I first heard him sing I need you now, from his first album.
Smokie takes us on an awesome journey with this album, The opening track He’s Gonna Come Through, features Tye Tribbett and the two uniquely different singers, mesh together quite well. The band on the is album is INSANE, and so are the background singers-One being a Ms. Nikki Ross. She is a beast.. check her out on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjeKZjJGtrE&feature=related
The album continues to wow me with tracks like Justified (1st single), Dear God (personal favorite), and a remake of the Lionel Richie hit-Jesus is love featuring Heather Headley.
My personal favorite on the cd is Dear God. This song is a wonderfully sung testimony, that makes you want to jump, clap and cry. Smokie’s riffs and runs, are truly one of a kind. This song will sure to be a blessing to anyone, who has ever gone through ANYTHING.
So- Go get the album!

Growing up, everyone has to

This month has been a huge point of reflection for me. Over the past few weeks my baby sister has grown up. To me that is. It seems like in the past few weeks i realized that she wasn't the little kid attached to my hip anymore, and that she had her own life. How could she! Doesn't she know that if she gets older I get older? Or even more so, that she is going to be an adult- like soon! OMG! Over the past few weeks, my sister has gone on a college tour, has chosen where she wants to spend 4 years of her life to better her self, and finally this Saturday she will be attending the prom.
Where did the time ago? It seems like yesterday my parents brought her home and introduced her to me. At first sight, she was the most beautiful person I had ever met, and today I still feel that way. We haven't always gotten along, but what siblings do? My mom would say that sometimes she felt as if she was in the middle of World War 3, with all the fighting and screaming between us. We were born 7 years apart. We didn't really have a lot to talk about. Now we do, and I love it!
I am proud to know my sister. She is beautiful inside, and out, and I can't wait to see where this journey called life takes her.

Save the Tata's- Race for the Cure, Indy 09

This past Saturday, was the annual Race for the Cure event in Indianapolis. The event supports the Susan G. Komen foundation. Kroger has been the premier sponsor of the event for the past 5 years. I am proud to know that Kroger truly cares about the community it serves, by sponsoring the event. In all of the years that I have worked the event, I have never seen a turn out like yesterday. So in honor of that milestone, today's post is about saving your tata's ladies.
Who gets breast cancer?
Anyone can get breast cancer.
Did you know…
• the older a woman, the more likely she is to get
breast cancer? • African American women are More likely to die
from breast cancer than white women?
• men can get breast cancer, although it is rare?
Less than one of every 100 cases of breast cancer
in the U.S. occurs in men.
• in 2008, it is estimated that men will account for
1,990 cases of breast cancer?

Don't stand so close to me

Things that bother me.
The other day, I was standing in the line of a grocery store with a few things.. More like one thing, a birthday card. As I patiently waited for the customer in front of me to decide which Hershey bar to get, I noticed that the person behind me was BREATHING on the back of my neck. Literally. I could feel her breath.. and I could smell it. HOW AWFUL!!
Why don't people respect my personal space.. Do you have to be THIS close to me? ICK!
Having someone I don't know stand that close to be kinda irks me.. I mean really. I don't know you or your germs. Please Back UP! That's another thing I need to work on.

Xbox 360 and me= Frienemies

I love Super Mario brothers, in fact I love it so much, that I refuse to play any other type of gaming system until I can play Super Mario again. With that being said, today's Wylie house drama is below:
My husband loves his Xbox 360. It was a gift from my loving in-laws. I am so grateful that they gave him that gaming system-cause there was NO way in hell, that I was putting any one red cent towards a system I can't even play. He plays several games and is very good at them.
Eric (my husband) thinks that I am mad at his Xbox 360 and that I don't like it. He has one thing right- I don't like his Xbox 360- I don't know it enough to like it. The last gaming system I played was Super Nintendo-that was over 15 years ago! Things have changed- back then all you had was a controller and maybe.. MAYBE a gun. That was it. Things were simple.... lets hop around eat coins, fly with clouds, and save the princess.
I think this new era of gaming is too much for me...

Randomness, Restroom Thoughts

Good Afternoon.

Let me start this post by saying.. I don't like public restrooms.. I work everyday therefore I have to use them. So.. here goes.
Today I had to pee. In fact.. I had been holding it a while.. all because I'm not fond of public restrooms, not that my office doesn't have nice facilities.. it's just the thought of going to the bathroom in public.. and maybe, just maybe that it's not my bathroom at home. I love my bathroom. It's nice, cozy.. oh and it's mine! Oh yeah.. and I tend to get public pee phobia.. If I know someone is in restroom- I can't go. I don't know what it is- I. CAN'T. GO. Anyway. I go in the ladies restroom and all is quiet. There are 5 stalls. No one is in there. Perfect! I go to the fourth stall. Why that one? I don't know. I like it- as much as I can for a public restroom. So I'm in number 4. Which means that 1,2,3, & 5 are open. Someone walks in. "Oh No", I say quietly. There are 4 other stalls open in this ladies room. What does this person do. Sit in Stall number 3. Right next to me! Who does that? It took all I had not to say something. 4 Other freaking STALLS!
I'm out!

oh yeah.. and Happy April Fool's Day to you jokester's out there.
